What you eat has a direct impact on how your body feels, heals, and functions. At Ascend Chiropractic Integrative Health Center, we take a whole-body approach to health — and that means nutrition matters as much as your adjustments.
Inflammation: The Root of Many Pain Problems
Chronic inflammation is one of the leading drivers of pain, stiffness, and slow recovery. The good news? Your diet is one of the most powerful tools to fight it. Foods high in processed sugars, refined carbs, and trans fats can increase inflammation in your body — making your pain worse and your recovery slower.
Anti-Inflammatory Foods to Add to Your Diet
Here are some of the best foods to incorporate for reduced inflammation and better overall health: fatty fish like salmon and sardines (rich in omega-3s), leafy greens like spinach, kale, and arugula, berries such as blueberries, strawberries, and cherries, turmeric and ginger (powerful natural anti-inflammatories), nuts and seeds like walnuts and flaxseed, and olive oil as your primary cooking fat.
Hydration and Spinal Health
Did you know your spinal discs are made up of about 80% water? Staying properly hydrated is essential to keeping those discs plump, flexible, and shock-absorbing. Dehydrated discs become brittle and more prone to injury. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water per day — more if you're active or live in a warm climate.
Foods to Limit
To support your healing and chiropractic care, try to reduce your intake of: fast food and fried foods, sugary drinks and sodas, white bread and refined grains, excessive alcohol, and processed snack foods. Small dietary changes over time can make a huge difference in how your body responds to treatment.
Nutrition is one piece of the puzzle. Pair it with regular chiropractic care, movement, and rest for the best results. Questions about how to support your healing through diet? Ask us at your next visit!
